There have been an array of unlikely partnerships, alliances, and relationships in WWE, and one of the more surprising was the friendship and connection between Alexa Bliss and Braun Strowman. When they were first featured alongside one another, it was when both were established singles stars in WWE with very different characters, and that alone was reason enough for this being viewed as a weird duo. However, over the years this got progressively weirder as their connection was brought to the forefront of storylines in an array of strange and bizarre ways. What began as something wholesome ended up as something quite odd.
Alexa Bliss And Braun Strowman Aligned For The WWE Mixed Match Challenge
Back in 2018, WWE produced the first Mixed Match Challenge, which was a Facebook-exclusive tournament that raised money for charity. This brought together both the men’s and women’s divisions in an array mixed-person tag teams who would fight alongside one another, and it brought about some very unique duos such as The Miz and Asuka, Sami Zayn and Becky Lynch, Bobby Roode and Charlotte Flair, and most importantly, Braun Strowman and Alexa Bliss, or as they were otherwise known, Team Little Big, because, you know, one of them is little and one of them is big. Very creative indeed.
Strangely at the time, Alexa Bliss was a despicable heel who was bullying Nia Jax for her looks, whilst Braun Strowman was a monstrous babyface who was hellbent on destruction. It was a surprising decision to align them, but when looking at how their partnership built, it is clear to see what Vince McMahon’s idea was. Much like how it has been both before and after this in WWE, their duo was built up as a “Beauty and The Beast” type of thing, with Strowman infatuated by Bliss and looking like a “dumb monster” whilst doing so. It must be said though, that it did get a little odd at times.
There Were Romantic Undertones Between Alexa Bliss And Braun Strowman
For the most part, the Mixed Match Challenge allowed wrestlers from both divisions to have some fun interactions that they wouldn’t otherwise have. Initially, this was what happened with Bliss and Strowman too, as they developed some wonderful chemistry in an array of online exclusive segments and bits, such as the pair gifting each other a shirt which was the complete wrong size, and when Strowman was trying to train Bliss by making her try to lift an entire car.
When it came to the matches themselves, it became clear that Strowman had feelings for Bliss, and the two found themselves in some intimate moments such as when Strowman caught Bliss when she was pushed off the apron, leading to them staring into each other’s eyes. A more notable occasion came when Bliss was in the corner, and she grabbed hold of Strowman’s beard and seemed to move in for a kiss, until it was broken up by their opponents. Given the face and heel dynamic of the two, it was never clear if Bliss was using Strowman or if the feelings were reciprocated. Either way though, there was no immediate follow up to this, and it wasn’t really mentioned again until 2020.
Alexa Bliss Was Involved In The Braun Strowman And Bray Wyatt Feud
In 2020, Braun Strowman was reigning as the Universal Champion and entered a feud with his former ally Bray Wyatt. The pair had a history in the Wyatt Family together, and it led to a lot of references and mind games. In the Wyatt Swamp Fight cinematic match at Extreme Rules, the mind games increased as Strowman’s feelings for Bliss were brought up. During the match, what seemed to be Bliss herself appeared in the Swamp, and told him to follow her, stating that, “You know we’ve always wanted to be together, we can be together forever, this is what you’ve always wanted.” This was the first time it had been outrightly made clear that there was a romantic connection, and her appearance caused Strowman to stop in his tracks and walk towards her.
Wyatt’s “Fiend” alter ego would go on to target and attack Bliss. Strowman would then seemingly lose all his affection for Bliss, as the pair argued in the ring during a promo, which ended with Strowman press slamming Bliss to lure out The Fiend. Bliss was used as a weird tool in this feud, and it was never really clear where everyone stood when it came to feelings and alliances. However, Bliss would eventually side with Wyatt, though it must be said that the issues between her and Strowman were never truly settled. All in all, their friendship had several weird undertones, and the way it developed was completely bizarre.
