Followers of WWE’s social media channels will no doubt be aware that the company often posts topical videos at certain times of the year, including Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day.
When it comes to Valentine’s Day, WWE has asked its Superstars to reveal their childhood crushes in various videos on the company’s YouTube channel over the last few years.
Although the majority of Superstars play it safe with their answers by naming somebody who does not work in the wrestling business (Big E said Britney Spears, for example), others were brave enough to reveal that they actually had a crush on another WWE Superstar.
In this article, let’s take a look at six Superstars who admitted to having a crush on another WWE employee when they were younger.
#6 Paige had a crush on WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin
While the other selections in this list are from WWE’s ‘Pop Question’ YouTube videos, Paige actually confessed that she had a crush on Steve Austin during an interview with the man himself on The Stone Cold Podcast.
The British Superstar instantly named Bull Nakano and Lita as two people who she looked up to as a child, and then she revealed that she was a huge fan of Austin during the Attitude Era.
“I was obsessed with you. It was mostly your character – it was just so cool when I was growing up. I was like, ‘Man, this guy coming down on a quad bike, drinking beers, flipping people off.’ I was like, ‘This is madness!’ I was, like, in love. I’m gonna embarrass myself. I was, like, in love with you. I was like, ‘This guy is awesome!’ Am I embarrassing myself?”
Austin responded by noting how it was interesting that a bald-headed WWE character with a goatee could resonate so much with a young girl.
#5 Ruby Riott had crushes on Steve Austin and Razor Ramon
Like many of today’s WWE Superstars, Ruby Riott was a huge wrestling fan during the Monday Night Wars in the 1990s.
In September 2017, Riott revealed in a WWE YouTube video that she had crushes on two of the most influential Superstars of that generation – Steve Austin and Razor Ramon – when she was a child.
“It’s actually a tie between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Razor Ramon.”
Austin was instrumental in helping WWE defeat WCW in the Monday Night Wars, while Ramon’s move from WWE to WCW – and subsequent reinvention as Scott Hall in the nWo – kick-started one of the most talked-about storylines in wrestling history.
#4 Roderick Strong had a crush on WWE Legend Molly Holly
Roderick Strong said in a 2017 video on WWE’s YouTube channel that he had a crush on Molly Holly when he was younger.
Interestingly, the Undisputed Era member actually trained with the former WWE Women’s Champion at the same backyard pro wrestling school when she was 18 and he was 13-14.
Holly even recalled in a Ring the Belle interview in 2019 that she recommended one of Strong’s moves – the Widow’s Peak – to Victoria when her then-WWE colleague was looking for a new finisher.
“He had a really cool move, and so Victoria was looking for a new finisher and I showed it to her and when I showed it to her in the ring, Vince McMahon was ringside talking to some people… he saw her practice it on me and Vince McMahon went, ‘Ohhhh, ohhhh,’ and I thought, ‘If we can get Vince to react that way, then we know it’s a good one.’” [H/T Fightful]
Given the history between the two WWE Superstars, it is not known whether Strong was being serious in the video or if he was joking around.
#3 Vanessa Borne had a crush on WWE legend The Rock
The Rock is widely regarded as one of the most popular and successful WWE Superstars of all time, so it should come as no surprise that some of WWE’s current-day performers had a crush on The Great One during the Attitude Era.
Speaking in a WWE YouTube video, Vanessa Borne immediately replied with The Rock’s name when she was asked to reveal her childhood WWE crush.
“It’s absolutely The Rock. He’s still my crush, so…”
In 2016, The Rock reacted to being named PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive by joking that he had nothing left to achieve in life after winning that accolade.
“I said, ‘That’s awesome.’ And then what went through my mind was just how cool and exciting it is. And then I thought, ‘Wow, we’ve pretty much reached the pinnacle.’ I’m not quite too sure where we go from here. I’ve done it all, this is it.”
Borne now works alongside The Rock’s daughter, Simone Johnson, who began reporting to the Performance Center on a full-time basis in 2020 after signing with WWE.
#2 Liv Morgan had a crush on WWE veteran John Cena
Liv Morgan is the only person in this list who admitted in two WWE YouTube videos that she had a crush on a fellow WWE Superstar.
In September 2017, the then-NXT Superstar gave a brief answer when she was asked to disclose her childhood WWE crush.
“John Cena, dude… Doctor of Thuganomics. He was definitely my celebrity wrestling crush.”
Two-and-a-half years later, Morgan name-checked John Cena again after being asked in a Valentine’s Day video to reveal someone who she liked as a child.
“I had a huge, huge, huge, huge, huge, huge, huge crush on John Cena. I thought he was the coolest ever. He came out with his backwards hat, chain gang soldier. I was like, ‘Me too, bro.’”
Cena slowed down his WWE in-ring career in 2017 – the same year that Morgan burst onto the main-roster scene alongside Ruby Riott and Sarah Logan as a member of The Riott Squad.
Despite that, Morgan has still been on the same televised WWE card as Cena on three occasions, including WrestleMania 34.
#1 Jessi Kamea had a crush on WWE veteran John Cena
Liv Morgan is not the only WWE Superstar who was fond of John Cena.
However, unlike Morgan, who seemingly preferred him as The Doctor of Thuganomics, Jessi Kamea (aka Jessie Elaban) revealed in another WWE YouTube video that she had a crush on Cena around the time that he was dating Nikki Bella.
“Okay, it was John Cena, only because he did his little trumpets and then the music would come out, but then I heard that he was dating Nikki Bella, and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s sad,’ because I like her too and I didn’t want to get in her way!”
Kamea’s comments were published in September 2017, five months after Cena proposed to Nikki Bella at WWE WrestleMania 33. The couple went their separate ways one year later after calling off their engagement.
Since then, Nikki has given birth to her first child with her fiancé, Artem Chigvintsev, while Cena has been in a relationship with Shay Shariatzadeh since 2019.
